The Effect of Providing Nursing Information upon the State-Anxiety of the Patients before undergoing Gastroscopy

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to find out the effects of providing nursing information of gastroscopy in advance on reducing the state-anxiety level of the patients who were undergoing gastroscopy. The subjects of this study were sampled from 2 university hospitals located in Kwangju City. Total subjects were 88, 42 for the experimental group, 46 for the control group. The data were collected by questionnaires, from September 10th to October 10th, 1994.
The results were as follows ;
1. The first hypothesis that "the experimental group who were provided the nursing information of gastroscopy would have higher degree of knowledge than the control group who were not provided with nursing information" was supported(t=-8.04, p=.000).
2. The second hypothesis that "the higher degree of the knowledge of gastroscopy, the lower the State-Anxiety would be" was not supported (r=0.0712, p=.255).
3. The third hypothesis that "the experimental group who were provided with nursing information of gastroscopy would show lower degree of State-Anxiety than the control group who were not provided with nursing information" was not supported(t=1.19, p=.238).
The result of this study indicates that providing the patients with nursing information of gastroscopy in advance is effective to high ten the knowledge of the patients and previous notice of information helps but not effective to reduce the state anxiety.
